LVN Program FAQ

The full-time and part-time class schedules at the Riverside campus are pending approval by the BVNPT. Classes are delivered via on-ground, online, and blended (on-ground and online) learning environments.

The LVN full-time option has a more rigorous schedule but allows for quicker program completion.⁵ If you have other responsibilities such as work or family, the LVN part-time schedule may be a better fit. While it takes longer to complete the program, part-time classes offer more flexibility to balance your current commitments.⁵
To become a nurse through Stanbridge University, you will need to:
1. Complete the Stanbridge University, BVNPT approved, VN program: Enroll in and successfully complete our Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) degree program.
2. Prepare for the Next Generation NCLEX: Throughout the program, you'll receive support and guidance to prepare for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Our faculty and staff are dedicated to helping you succeed in this important step towards becoming a licensed nurse.
3. Take the NCLEX-PN licensure exam: After completing your degree program, you will need to sit for the NCLEX-PN examination. Passing this exam is required to become a licensed vocational nurse.
Your background as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) or medical assistant (MA) has equipped you with valuable patient care skills and healthcare knowledge. Taking the next step with an LVN program can help you build upon this foundation and may allow you to take on more advanced responsibilities upon successful completion and licensure.
As a CNA or MA, you're likely already familiar with certain healthcare settings and practices. This familiarity may help you adapt more quickly to the LVN program and focus on mastering the higher-level skills required in nursing.

As stated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) offer patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or physician. They can work in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and home health agencies. LVN tasks include, but are not limited to, taking vital signs, giving injections, dressing wounds, and providing patient comfort.⁶
The Stanbridge University Associate of Occupational Science in Vocational Nursing program is offered at the Riverside campus. The Riverside campus is centrally positioned within the Inland Empire, close to the 210, 15, and 91 freeways, serving students in Riverside, Corona, Moreno Valley, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino, and surrounding areas.
The Employment Development Department of the State of California projects that in-state employment for LVNs will grow by 15.1% from 2018-2028.⁷
LVN programs can also provide solid groundwork on which to build a nursing career. The Associate of Occupational Science in Vocational Nursing program at Stanbridge University’s Riverside campus introduces essential concepts, including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and medical terminology. Grasping these concepts is crucial for progressing into more advanced roles later on, such as RNs or nurse practitioners (NPs).
