Job Description:

Reporting to the Vice President of Instruction, the Director of Nursing is responsible for all activities related to academic leadership including planning, managing and evaluating all aspects of the program including faculty and staff, curriculum development and implementation, compliance with California Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians(BVNPT) rules and regulations.

Essential Functions:

  • Facilitate all activities related to academic policies, personnel policies, curriculum, resources, facilities, services and program evaluation.
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard new faculty and provide in-service training and professional development for instructors as well as plan, assign, and direct work, appraise performance, reward and coach employees, address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Recommend class schedules, instructor assignments and resolution of personnel issues.
  • Direct faculty to assure that the instruction provided follows the approved curriculum, achieves program objectives and attains desired outcomes.
  • Coordinate the management of faculty schedules and arranging substitutions or substitutes in areas of instruction according to California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) approval.
  • Act as an advocate for the University, program, faculty and students.
  • Facilitate the oversight of the programs Evaluation, Curriculum and Policy Committees
  • Develop and maintain strong working interdepartmental, clinical and community relationships through institution representation at professional activities.
  • Initiate and lead Administrative meetings
  • Lead development and implementation of strategic projects
  • Interview and select perspective students for program admission, conduct student Nursing Orientation
  • Participate in activities that contribute to the governance of the Board of Registered Nursing and accreditation bodies
  • Provide close collaboration with Student Services on student issues


  • A Master's Degree in Nursing or higher from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing, education or administration.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience teaching as an instructor in pre- or post-licensure. programs (such as associate, baccalaureate, master's, or doctoral degree nursing programs)
  • A minimum of one year's experience as an administrator with validated performance of administrative responsibilities.
  • A minimum four (4) year of continuous full-time experience, or equivalent as a registered nurse providing direct patient care in geriatrics, medical-surgical, mental health psychiatric nursing, obstetrics or pediatrics within the past five (5) years; or equivalent experience and/or education.
  • Hold a valid, active license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
  • Knowledge of Board of Nursing regulations for clinical learning desired.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Advanced MS Office skills preferred.
